Treasure. The things most important to us. Jewels, money, books, music. People. Things. A treasure can be many things. But what kind of treasure do you have?
What is most dear to you? What is it that you hold onto with your everything?
We hold onto this world with all our might, but for what? Why do we grip so tight that our knuckles turn white, when all we are holding onto is something that won’t last, and will pass away in the end?
So I ask again. What do you treasure?
There are so many things to desire, to cherish, in this life, but we must be sure we have our eyes set firmly on Christ as we seek after treasures. We can’t take earthly riches with us, and they are a vain thing. Fame. Fortune. It will all pass away. So what are we SEEKING in this life?
Is your treasure your family? Your friends?
The Bible teaches that we are to lay up treasures in heaven. We can’t take anything from this life with us into eternity. Not one thing. Nothing we do will go with us. But we can send AHEAD. We can LAY UP treasure. Gold and silver, that will endure the flames. Not literal gold.
Those friends and family. Are they saved? If they are your treasure here on earth, then you better love them more than you fear them and SHARE the gospel with them. If you want them to be amongst your heavenly treasures, then make sure they are going with you! Make SURE!
All these things will pass away. But the Word of God is FOREVER. It was God’s spoken word that brought us all into existence to begin with. Ever think about that? And His Word endures.
Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
What is that verse talking about? It means you aren’t seeking worldly treasures. You are seeking God. You love people more than you fear them, and share salvation’s story. You listen to the Spirit and follow where Christ leads you. If God says no, the answer is no. And God says yes, than the gates of Hell won’t prevail against you. Seek the kingdom. And all these things will be added to you.
God wants to pour out blessings. But we won’t let Him. We are cold. Not on fire for Him. Cold and with deaf ears. We hear not the Word, and turn away from His way. We seek our own treasures that last but a season instead of seeking after the things of God and laying up treasures in heaven. We fear those around us, and many times aren’t even brave enough to declare ourselves believers in Christ Jesus, the Son of God.
What kind of treasure do you have? I challenge you to look at your life and see. See and find what kind of treasures you are seeking, that you are gathering for yourself!
What kind of treasure do you want? God is there. God is waiting. Let Him break you. Let Him bind you. Seek after Him. Seek after His treasures, and all these things will be added to you. In His time. And in His time alone.
